I was
born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois called Streamwood. I
spent a majority of my life there until I moved to Arizona in June of 1999.
Even though I did miss the changing of the seasons back in the Mid-West, I came
to find that I DIDN'T miss the cold wind or freezing rain! :-) I
thoroughly enjoyed living in Arizona and often took advantage of the beautiful
weather and scenery it has by mountain biking and hiking in my free time.
However, I must admit the heat tended to get a little overwhelming and I
decided it was time for yet another change. In June of 2007, I moved to
Los Angeles, California.
Prior to teaching, I worked at a hotel as a
Catering Sales Manager. However, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher
so I began to go to school full-time in the evening. It wasn't before
long that I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Ottawa University in December of 2005. I vowed I would
begin working towards my Masters program within five years. I did and I
finished my Masters degree in Educational Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University
in December 2010. I work hard and love what I do and I'm constantly striving to
be the best teacher I can be. In 2008, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one
of fifteen Scholastic Book Club Advisors. I was treated to a trip to downtown
New York to offer my feedback regarding their book clubs. They definitely
treated us like royalty!!
A few of my favorite hobbies are technology (in and out of the classroom), reading, writing, and web design. I also enjoy going to the movies and hanging with my wonderful husband, Christian, who runs a successful direct sales business called Thrive and landscaping company Quickly after we were married, we were blessed to find out we were pregnant with our first child. Our daughter, Kenzie, was born in July of 2011. Life seemed to stand still when she was born and almost everything took a backseat to my beautiful daughter. However, as the months have gone on, I have found how to juggle and balance my life. We joyfully welcomed our second daughter, Kaidyn, in March of 2013. And then in late July 2015, we welcomed our third daughter, Koral. These three girls keep my heart so full and I'm so very thankful to God for making me their mother!
I have been teaching for
over fourteen years. A majority of my time was spent in 5th grade but a few years ago I moved down to second grade. Leading these younger children in the Sacraments has been such a wonderful and fulfilling experience for me. In
addition to teaching, I am also the Vice Principal at my school, the Director
of 1:1 iPad Program, along with MANY other hats at my job. I typically am
the go to person regarding technology questions at our school and if there is
something new to try out, you better believe I'm willing to give it a try in my
classroom.
I enjoy sharing my classroom with other teachers and you can catch me most often on Instagram (@mrslyonsclass) and Facebook. I also opened up a small shop on TpT, where I share a variety of things ranging from math to language arts among other things. Be sure to stop by one of social media outlets and say hi! I look forward to connecting with you!
